October Instructor of the Month - Brianna Carson
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself: what are some fun facts about you?
My full time job is with the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (Public Debt). I have a 6 year old son who keeps me on my toes. I recently learned I love solo travel and started a quest to seek adventure in all 50 states! I also love singing, dancing, and playing ukulele.
2. What do you teach at the YMCA of Parkersburg? Tell us a little bit about it.
I just started teaching Zumba Fitness, which is a group cardio class driven by Latin and international rhythms, and using dance techniques combined with fitness elements to create an hour of “exercise in disguise”.
3. When and why did you become an instructor? What's your teaching style?
I got my license to teach Zumba Fitness in 2011, when the Zumba instructor I was taking classes with asked me to consider taking over the class when she moved out of town. It became my passion to inspire people to move. In 2021 I got my license to teach Pound Fitness as well. My teaching style is mostly visual cueing and I use progressive or layered movements. In class, I have been described as a wild woman. 😅
4. What is your most favorite part of teaching at the YMCA of Parkersburg?
My favorite part of teaching classes is to watch the transformation of my students who start timid in the back row and end up being a front row diva with confidence, or watching a student struggle with a movement and then finally it *clicks* and they bust it out! I love being their cheerleader and watching them grow. I’m excited to join the Y family and I can’t wait to dance with you all!
